The Writing Center offers a variety of free workshops to help students succeed at MtSAC. Fall Workshop* Descriptions:

“How do I put together a successful research paper?” 

The RESEARCH WORKSHOP will give you the answers!

The Beginning College Research Workshop includes

  • The best methods for navigating the Mt. SAC library database
  • Tips for conducting on-line research and properly including it in your papers
  • Correct format for quotes and bibliography.

“How do I organize my essays?” 

Come to the ESSAY PLANNING AND OUTLINING WORKSHOP to find out!

The Essay Planning and Outlining Workshop includes

  • Definition of essay parts such as title, thesis, body paragraphs, and topic sentences
  • Essay outline handouts
  • Sample student essays.

“What are the most common sentence errors and how can I avoid them?”

Come to the SENTENCE ERRORS WORKSHOP to find out!

The Identifying and Eliminating Major Sentence Errors Workshop includes

  • Methods for correcting comma splices, fragments, and run ons
  • Grammar activities to help you identify these errors in your own writing
  • Sample student writing exercises.

“Does your mind go blank when faced with the pressures of in-class writing?”

The TIMED WRITING WORKSHOP is for you!

The Timed Writing Workshop includes

  • Time-management techniques for in-class essays and/or short answer exam writing
  • Prewriting tools to use when time-related anxiety sets in
  • Essay outline handouts and writing practice.
