Veterans Benefits - Veterans / Dependents Application Procedures

  1. Veterans applying for the first time must complete VA Form 22-1990 and submit two copies of their DD214, member 4 if possible.
  2. Reservists (Chapter 1606) applying for the first time must either submit Form DD2384 or DD23384-1 signed by your unit Commander.
  3. Veterans/Reservists who have previously applied must complete VA Form 22-1995 and submit one copy of their DD214 if a veteran or one copy of DD2384 if a reservist.
  4. Eligible dependents applying the first time complete VA Form 22-5490 and submit a copy of their birth certificate. Reapplying eligible dependents must complete VA Form 22-5495 and submit a copy of their birth certificate. To qualify you must be a dependent son, daughter, or spouse of a veteran whose death was service connected or has a parent or spouse who has a 100% service connected disability (verified by the VA).
  5. Transcripts from all previous colleges must be requested when you apply for Veterans benefits. All prior transcripts must be received and evaluated as soon as possible along with a complete/signed educational plan before you apply for the following semester.See the Advising Center for completing your Ed plan.
  6. Vocational Rehabilitation students (Chapter 31) receive a VA Form 22-1905 from their case manager. See the Veteran's Clerk for information regarding pre-payment of fees, books, and supplies.
  7. Enrollment verification for Chapter 30 and 30RO:An enrollment verification letter will be mailed to you at the end of each month.This form must be verified, signed and returned to the VA no earlier than the last 3 days of each month.Processing time for your check is 10-15 working days from the time your verification letter is returned to the VA.If you have direct deposit the processing time takes 5-7 working days.SEE OUR OFFICE IF THE VERIFICATION LETTER IS NOT RECEIVED!
  8. Chapter 30ROs must complete the following:VA Form 686c Dependency and submit copies of all divorce decrees, marriage certificates, and one copy of the birth certificate for each dependent child.Bring us your originals and we will make copies and certify them.ANY CHANGES IN DEPENDENCY MUST BE REPORTED!
  9. Chapter 35 (dependents) and Chapter 31 (Voc. Rehab.) must be enrolled in at least 6 units to quality for educational benefits. To find your monthly benefits, please call the VA Regional Office at 1 (800) 827-1000.
  10. Accelerated courses (less than 18 weeks) are calculated at a different rate.Ask us for details if you intend to take a short-term course.
